CAMDEN COUNTY

Camden County, NJ Duct Cleaning, Dryer Vents and Chimney Care

Camden County was formed in 1844 from part of Gloucester County, and its 523,485 residents at the 2020 census were the most it has ever counted. AMG Duct Cleaning is based in Cherry Hill, the county's most populous town, and works eight Camden County towns whose houses span more than a century of building.

The oldest houses on this side of the county stand in Haddonfield, Collingswood and Haddon Heights. About half the homes in Haddonfield and in Collingswood were built before 1940, and Haddon Heights grew as a railroad suburb after 1890. Cherry Hill's own master plan calls Haddon Township and Collingswood first-ring suburbs of Philadelphia and Cherry Hill a second-ring one, whose first building wave followed the 1926 opening of the bridge to Philadelphia and whose biggest came after the war. After that the building moved outward: Pennsauken's busiest decade was the 1950s, Gloucester Township's the 1970s and Voorhees's the 1980s.

Each era left a different kind of system behind, and a visit is planned around the house in front of us rather than a county-wide checklist. The county borders Philadelphia across the Delaware, sits on flat, low coastal plain, and holds 36 municipalities; the eight with their own pages here are the ones closest to the Cherry Hill base.

Prewar houses in the older boroughs

In Haddonfield, Collingswood and Haddon Heights, many houses were heated by boilers and radiators before anyone ran ductwork through them, so the ducts they have now reach the second floor through closets, chases and attic floors. A retrofit like that is usually short on return air upstairs, and air duct repair and air duct installation do more for a hot bedroom than any cleaning. Collingswood adds twins, two-families and larger apartment blocks, so a single address may hold several separate systems and a landlord booking for a tenant.

These houses also carry the county's oldest chimneys, often venting a gas furnace or boiler through a masonry flue first built for coal. Chimney cleaning opens the flue for a look at the tile, and chimney repair rebuilds crowns and fits liners. In Haddonfield's historic district a Certificate of Appropriateness is required before exterior alterations, so a new cap or a vent hood on a visible wall goes through the borough first.

Postwar Cherry Hill, Haddon Township and Pennsauken

Cherry Hill's population roughly tripled across the 1950s and doubled over the 1960s, Pennsauken's biggest decade for new homes was the 1950s, and Haddon Township's median house dates to the mid-1950s. Houses of that generation often keep their original trunk lines and returns behind newer furnaces, with taped joints that have let go and returns made from a joist cavity with a metal panel nailed across it.

Air duct cleaning in these houses follows sealing, so the system stops pulling basement and crawl space dust through its leaks. Dryer vent cleaning is usually a short basement run to a rim joist hood that clogs at the flap, unless a later renovation moved the laundry upstairs. Haddon Township and Cherry Hill also hold large apartment buildings and condominium complexes, where dryer runs share chases and visits go through a management office.

Newer townships: Voorhees and Gloucester Township

Voorhees was orchards and farms until the Echelon Mall opened in 1970 at the center of a planned community of apartments, condominiums and houses, and Gloucester Township's median house dates to the late 1970s. About one home in six in Gloucester Township is a townhouse or other attached unit, and in Voorhees close to four homes in ten are rented.

Here the work turns to attic air handlers with flexible runs that sag and pull loose, closet heat pumps with a single return, and townhouse dryer ducts that climb to a roof cap. Dryer vent installation shortens runs the dryer cannot push through, and factory-built fireplaces in framed chases need their metal covers and caps watched as closely as their flues.

The Cooper River, Big Timber Creek and the 2004 flood

The Cooper River runs from Gibbsboro through Voorhees and Cherry Hill to the Delaware at Camden, forming the line between Cherry Hill and the older towns across it, and Big Timber Creek crosses Gloucester Township on the county's southern side. During the mid-July 2004 storm, Cherry Hill took the heaviest rain the U.S. Geological Survey measured in the Cooper River basin, nearly eight inches, and the river at Haddonfield ran at about 1.1 times its 100-year flow.

Basements and crawl spaces along these streams can stay damp long after the water drops. Mold treatment and removal is limited to ductwork, coils, drain pans and air handlers, never walls or framing, and it holds only once the moisture is handled. For a coil that never dries between June and September, HVAC UV light installation is the add-on, working alongside the filter rather than replacing it.

How Camden County visits are planned

Working from Cherry Hill, the team reaches the older boroughs across the Cooper River in minutes, Pennsauken to the north, Voorhees along County Route 544, and Gloucester Township by way of the Black Horse Pike. We start with the heating equipment and its return air path, move on to the dryer duct and any flues, and finish by showing you what we found.

Camden County callers reach us 8 AM to 8 PM, Monday to Saturday, and the veteran owned business that answers is licensed and insured. Every estimate is free and follows a look at the house itself.

Towns we serve in Camden County

Questions and answers

Which Camden County towns does the Cherry Hill team cover?

The eight with pages here are Cherry Hill, Collingswood, Gloucester Township, Haddon Heights, Haddon Township, Haddonfield, Pennsauken and Voorhees. A town close by that is missing from that list is often covered as well; call and we will tell you.

Is Gloucester Township in Gloucester County?

No. Gloucester Township was organized inside the old Gloucester County, but when Camden County was formed in 1844 the township became part of it. It is a Camden County township now, bordering Deptford and Washington townships on the Gloucester County side.

Our Camden County house is more than eighty years old. What gets looked at first?

The return side of the ductwork and the chimney. Prewar houses often got their ducts late and with too little return air, and their masonry flues serve gas equipment they were never built for. Both get checked before anyone talks about cleaning.

Our house near the Cooper River flooded in 2004. What should we check in the ducts now?

Any duct that sat in water, and the equipment it feeds. Insulated duct holds moisture long after a basement dries, and a damp coil or pan grows what the airflow then spreads. We open those runs, look at the coil and the pan, and decide on cleaning, replacement or treatment from what they show.

How do we book in any of these Camden County towns?

Call (856) 856-1409 or request a visit online. Visits run 8 AM to 8 PM, Monday to Saturday, and the estimate is free.
